Slurry Pump Selection Guide: Tailored for Gold, Copper, and Coal Mines

Introduction
One size does not fit all in mining. A pump perfect for a coal washery might fail in weeks in a copper concentrator. This guide breaks down the specific requirements for different mineral processing applications.

1. Gold Mining: High Abrasion & Cyanide Risks

  • Challenge: Fine, highly abrasive silica sands; potential chemical corrosion from cyanide leaching.

  • Recommended Material: High Chrome Alloy (A05) is standard. For leach circuits with low pH, consider 316 Stainless Steel or specialized duplex alloys.

  • Model Tip: Use AH Series with expeller seals to prevent toxic slurry leakage.

2. Copper Mining: Coarse Particles & High Density

  • Challenge: Large particle sizes from SAG/Ball mills; very high slurry densities (>60%).

  • Recommended Material: A05 High Chrome is essential for impact resistance. Rubber is generally not suitable due to cut damage from coarse rocks.

  • Model Tip: Heavy-duty frames like 4/3C-AH or 6/4D-AH are required to handle the radial loads of large impellers.

3. Coal Preparation: Wet, Sticky & Low Abrasion

  • Challenge: High moisture, sticky clay, low abrasion but prone to clogging.

  • Recommended Material: Natural Rubber liners often outlast metal here because they resist sticking and have excellent rebound properties.

  • Model Tip: Larger passage ways to prevent clogging. Warman AH with rubber liners is the industry standard.

4. Iron Ore: Extreme Abrasion

  • Challenge: Highly abrasive hematite/magnetite slurries over long distances.

  • Recommended Material: A05 High Chrome or Ceramic-composite for extreme life.

  • Model Tip: Focus on efficiency to reduce energy costs in long-distance pipelines (e.g., 8/6E-AH).
