Abstract
Australia Iron Mine - Large-Flow Transportation with XG(H) Large-Caliber Slurry Pumps
A large iron mine located in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia is a key enterprise in the global iron ore export industry, engaging in large-scale open-pit iron mining and beneficiation operations. The mine has a large production scale, and the slurry transportation link has an urgent demand for large-flow and high-stability slurry pumps to match its high-yield production line.
The core demand of the mine was large-flow slurry transportation and adaptability to high-concentration slurry: the iron ore slurry solid content is 55%-65%, with particle size up to 4mm, and the daily slurry transportation volume reaches 8,000-10,000 m³, requiring slurry pumps with large flow and high head. The local arid climate (annual rainfall less than 200mm) and high temperature (30℃-45℃ in summer) also require the pump unit to have good high-temperature resistance. The conventional large-flow slurry pumps previously used by the mine had low stability: frequent pump body vibration, easy clogging of flow channels, and high energy consumption, which could not meet the large-flow transportation demand, resulting in 5-7 monthly unplanned shutdowns and affecting production continuity.
Referring to the technical experience of large-caliber slurry pumps for ultra-large mines[2], we provided the mine with XG(H) series large-caliber heavy-duty slurry pumps, a customized large-flow solution: the core equipment adopted XG(H)-31-550 large-caliber slurry pumps, with flow range 800-1200 m³/h and head 40-60 m, fully meeting the mine’s large-flow transportation demand[2]; the flow parts adopted high-wear-resistant high-chromium alloy material, with hardness up to HRC 67-69, resisting the scouring of high-concentration iron ore slurry; the pump body adopted a rigid structure design to reduce vibration during operation, and the flow channel was optimized to enhance anti-clogging performance; the sealing system adopted high-temperature-resistant fluorine rubber mechanical seal to adapt to the local high-temperature environment.
After 18 months of stable operation, our large-caliber slurry pumps have achieved excellent results: the monthly unplanned shutdown times have been controlled within 1 time, the flow part service life has been extended to over 16 months, the transportation efficiency has increased by 28%, and the annual energy consumption has been reduced by 12%. The mine’s annual cost savings in spare parts, maintenance and energy consumption exceed $1.4 million, and the production capacity has been increased by 20%. This cooperation fully demonstrates our strength in providing large-flow slurry transportation solutions for large-scale iron mines[2], and has won widespread recognition in the Australian mining industry.
