Abstract

Venezuela Copper Mine Project

Empowering Venezuela's Copper Mining, Solving Slurry Dilemmas with Professional Pumps - The Win-Win Cooperation Between XINGOU Slurry Pumps and a Venezuelan Copper Mine

As a key player in Venezuela's copper mining industry, a large-scale copper mine located in Bolívar State is crucial to the local mining economy. Slurry transportation, a core link in its ore grinding, flotation and tailings disposal processes, directly determines the mine’s production efficiency and operational stability. A year ago, however, the mine struggled with frequent slurry pump failures and high operational costs—until it established cooperation with us, a senior domestic slurry pump manufacturer. This cross-border collaboration successfully resolved the mine’s long-standing predicaments, becoming a model of our professional support for global mining customers.

The mine faced unique and harsh challenges due to local geological and operational conditions: the copper ore slurry contained high levels of hard gangue particles (particle size up to 5mm), with fine particles (particle size < 0.03mm) accounting for 65% and solid content fluctuating between 50% and 68%. In addition, the slurry contained acidic components (pH 4.5-5.5) due to the local ore characteristics, and the outdoor operating environment (temperature 25-38℃, high humidity) further exacerbated equipment wear and corrosion. Its original slurry pumps suffered frequent failures: flow passage components were severely worn and needed replacement every 2 months, slurry leakage often occurred in the sealing system, and 6-8 monthly unplanned shutdowns reduced production efficiency by 18%, causing monthly losses of over $90,000. Previous attempts to replace suppliers and adjust equipment failed to achieve long-term stability.

Unlike other suppliers that only provided standardized products remotely, we attached great importance to on-site investigation and tailored solutions. We dispatched a professional technical team consisting of 2 senior mining slurry engineers (with over 12 years of experience in copper mine slurry solutions) to the mine in Bolívar State, conducting a 10-day in-depth on-site investigation. The team collected over 1,000 sets of key operational data (slurry concentration, particle size distribution, acidity, transportation pressure) through professional testing equipment, disassembled and analyzed faulty pumps, and finally identified the root causes: the original pumps used common wear-resistant materials (HRC 60-62) that could not resist the erosion of hard particles; the sealing system was not corrosion-resistant and could not adapt to acidic slurry; and the hydraulic model was not optimized for high-concentration, large-particle slurry, leading to low transportation efficiency and high energy consumption.

To address these pain points, we designed a targeted customized solution for the mine: we adopted exclusive high-hardness wear-resistant corrosion-resistant alloy (Cr29Ni4Mo3) for the flow passage components (impeller, pump casing, guard plate), which was treated with special surface hardening to increase hardness to HRC 66-69, extending the service life of flow passage components to over 14 months; we optimized the hydraulic model for high-concentration, large-particle slurry, adopting an open-impeller structure to improve anti-clogging performance and increase transportation efficiency to 80%, reducing energy consumption by 10%; we customized an acid-resistant sealing system (PTFE + silicon carbide sealing components) to completely solve the slurry leakage problem caused by acidic corrosion; we designed a dust-proof and moisture-proof protective structure for the pump unit to adapt to the outdoor high-humidity environment; in addition, we equipped the solution with an intelligent monitoring system to real-time monitor equipment operation status and issue early warnings for potential failures.

Adhering to strict ISO quality control standards, we conducted 72-hour continuous full-load performance tests on all customized pumps before shipment, simulating the mine’s actual operating conditions to ensure all parameters (flow rate, head, efficiency, corrosion resistance) met the design requirements. Meanwhile, we communicated closely with the mine in advance, formulated a detailed installation and commissioning plan, and arranged technical personnel to go to the site synchronously with the equipment to minimize installation time and production impact.

Our professional one-stop service ensured the smooth progress of the cooperation: the technical team completed the installation and commissioning of all pump units in 4 days, provided on-site operation and maintenance training for the mine’s staff for a week, and guided them to master daily maintenance skills and common fault handling methods. This full-process support effectively reduced the mine’s operational pressure and laid a solid foundation for long-term cooperation.

We established an exclusive after-sales service mechanism for the mine, providing 24-hour online technical support (response within 1.5 hours) and on-site service guarantee (arrival within 72 hours for emergency situations). When the mine encountered a sudden slurry blockage due to abnormal ore composition, our technical team rushed to the site quickly, resolved the problem in 8 hours, and adjusted the pump operation parameters to adapt to ore composition changes, minimizing production losses.

Up to now, our customized slurry pumps have operated stably for over a year, achieving remarkable results: unplanned shutdowns have been reduced by 90%, transportation efficiency has increased by 28%, annual cost savings (spare parts, maintenance, energy consumption) exceed $1 million (ROI 280%), and production capacity has increased by 16%. The pumps have excellent adaptability, calmly coping with fluctuations in slurry solid content (±6%) and acidity (pH 4.0-5.8), maintaining stable operation even in extreme high-concentration (70%) slurry scenarios, winning high recognition from the mine’s management and technical team.

This cooperation fully demonstrated our professional strength in global mining slurry solutions—from in-depth on-site investigation and accurate problem diagnosis to tailored product design and thoughtful full-process service. The Venezuelan copper mine has become our core customer in South America, and both parties have established long-term strategic cooperation intentions. The mine has also actively recommended us to other local copper mines, helping us expand our market influence in Venezuela’s mining industry.

With years of experience in slurry pump R&D, manufacturing and global service, we are committed to providing efficient, stable and cost-effective slurry transportation solutions for global mining customers, overcoming geographical and operational challenges with professionalism, and creating win-win value for customers around the world.
