Slurry Pump Maintenance Guide: How to Extend the Life of Your AH Series Pump

A slurry pump is only as good as its maintenance program. In abrasive mining environments, neglecting routine checks can lead to catastrophic failures and costly downtime. Whether you are running a 2/1.5B-AH or a massive 8/6E-AH, following these best practices will maximize your pump's lifespan and efficiency.

At Hebei XingOu Machinery, we don't just sell pumps; we help you keep them running. Here is your essential maintenance checklist.

1. Monitor Wear Parts Regularly

The impellervolute liner, and front liner are sacrificial components.

  • Check Frequency: Inspect every 500-1000 operating hours (depending on slurry abrasiveness).

  • Signs of Wear: Reduced flow, lower pressure, or increased vibration.

  • Action: Replace worn parts before they damage the casing or adapter. Using XingOu A05 High Chrome parts ensures longer intervals between changes.

2. Bearing Assembly Care

The heart of your pump is the bearing frame (B, C, D, or E type).

  • Lubrication: Check oil levels weekly. Change oil every 2000 hours or annually. If using grease, follow the manufacturer's re-greasing schedule strictly.

  • Temperature: Bearings should not exceed 70°C (160°F). Excessive heat indicates misalignment, over-lubrication, or impending failure.

  • Noise: Listen for grinding or squealing noises, which signal bearing damage.

3. Shaft Seal Adjustment

Leaks are the most common issue.

  • Packing Gland: Should leak slightly (approx. 1 drop per second) to lubricate the packing. Tighten gradually; overtightening burns the packing and scores the shaft sleeve.

  • Expeller Seal: Ensure the expeller is rotating freely and the clearance is correct. Ideal for "zero leak" requirements when stopped.

  • Mechanical Seal: Check for leaks immediately. These are precision components and usually require replacement rather than adjustment if leaking.

4. Alignment is Key

Misalignment between the pump and motor is a leading cause of bearing failure.

  • Check: Perform laser alignment during installation and after any major maintenance.

  • Thermal Growth: Account for thermal expansion of the motor and pump during operation.

5. Troubleshooting Common Issues

IssuePossible CauseSolution
Low Flow/HeadWorn impeller/liner, clogged suction, wrong rotationReplace wear parts, check suction line, verify motor direction
Excessive VibrationUnbalanced impeller, cavitation, bearing failureBalance impeller, check NPSH, replace bearings
Overheating BearingsLow oil, dirty oil, misalignmentRefill/change oil, realign coupling
